1. What is a merchant account?

A merchant account is a special type of bank account that enables businesses to accept credit cards. When a cardholder"s issuing bank approves a transaction, your merchant account holds the funds until it clears. Your acquiring bank then transfers the money to your bank account (or to Instabill so we can transfer the money to your bank account) based upon your payout schedule.

2. What type of merchant accounts does Instabill offer?

Instabill offers both retail merchant account solutions and online merchant account solutions to a wide range of businesses in the United States.

3. What type of businesses does Instabill accept?

Instabill works with a variety of storefront and e-commerce businesses. Visit our retail merchant accounts page for a detailed list of storefront businesses we serve. 4. How do I apply for an Instabill merchant account?

Applying for an Instabill merchant account is fast and easy. Contact us online for a FREE merchant account application and list of documents to submit for the underwriting process. Once you return your complete application and documents, your dedicated merchant account manager will handle the rest. Instabill will match you with one of its banking partners that best fits your credit card processing needs and will send you the merchant account contract for you to read, approve, sign, and return to your account manager.

5. What documents do I need to submit when applying for an Instabill merchant account?

The documents you will need to submit when applying for an Instabill merchant account will vary based on the acquiring bank we feel is best for your business—some may require more or less documents than others. 6. What are Instabill"s merchant account fees?

7. Do I need to have a website to open an online merchant account with Instabill?

Yes, you need to have a website in order to apply for an online merchant account with us. Some of the website requirements set by Visa and MasterCard include:

  • Displayed Visa/MasterCard brand logos in full color
  • Detailed, accurate descriptions of goods and services
  • Clearly stated return, refund, and cancellation policy
  • Include an "Agree" checkbox for customers to click after reading terms and conditions/li>
  • Customer service contact information, including an email address and telephone number

8. Do I need a business license to get an Instabill merchant account?

If your industry requires you to obtain a business license to operate legally, then you will also need to provide us with a copy of your business license in order to get an Instabill merchant account. Some industries include forex brokerages, loan brokerages, and credit repair businesses.

9. What credit cards can I accept with my Instabill merchant account?

Instabill offers credit card processing solutions for all major credit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club, and JCB International. If you need to process credit cards for a specific brand, please let your account manager know so we can find you the best merchant account for your business"s needs.

10. How do I know what POS terminal is best for my retail business?

If you check out our POS Terminals page, you will see descriptions of each POS terminal we offer. If you still need help, contact your merchant account manager for guidance.

11. How will I receive my POS terminal?

Once you choose what POS terminal you want to accompany your retail merchant account, tell us what delivery method works best for you and we will mail your terminal to you.

12. Does Instabill provide training for my POS terminal?

If you need help learning how to use your POS terminal, we can provide you with easy-to-follow instructions as well as telephone support.

13. Do I need a payment gateway to accept credit cards online?

Yes, you need a to accept credit cards online. The Instabill payment gateway connects your website to our server so we can process your transactions safely and securely.

14. How do I activate my online merchant account?

Once you have integrated your website with the Instabill payment gateway, email your merchant account manager to let him or her know. Include your business"s name as well as your Merchant ID (MID). Your account manager will review your website, activate your online merchant account, and confirm the activation with you via email. Please allow us 24 hours to activate your online merchant account.

15. How many websites can I link to my online merchant account?

We do not limit the number of websites you can link to your online merchant account. However, all websites linking to the same merchant account must pertain to the same industry, and your merchant account manager must approve all additional websites before you begin accepting credit cards online for them.

16. When will I receive my payouts from Instabill?

When your acquiring bank first approves your merchant account, it will also inform you of your payout schedule. Payouts are either daily (three days in arrears), or weekly (one or two weeks in arrears). Acquiring banks determine payout schedules based on various factors including processing history and monthly sales volume.

17. Is there a maximum dollar amount I can process per transaction?

Yes—your acquiring bank will determine the maximum dollar amount that you can accept on one single transaction. Determining factors include industry type and risk factor.

18. What is the Address Verification System (AVS)?

AVS is a service that compares a cardholder"s billing address against the shipping address and provides information regarding how the two addresses match. The service cannot approve or deny transactions. It merely provides a merchant with information to determine whether the transaction may be fraudulent.

Is PCI compliance important?

Absolutely! PCI compliance is a requirement for all merchants and organizations that store, process, or transmit cardholder data. The PCI Security Standards Council created 12 requirements to protect credit card information from theft and fraud. As a payment processor, it is our duty to report to Visa and MasterCard that all of our merchants are PCI compliant. If you process credit cards and your storefront or website is not PCI compliant, you are subject to fines from the card associations as well as losing rights to process credit cards.
